Every summer, I stand on the beach here in Bundoran and watch a new group of students walk out of the classroom and straight into the Atlantic, some of them nervous, most of them laughing, all of them a little different by the end of the week. That’s really what we’re about at Donegal English Language School: not just English lessons, but an experience you’ll still be telling your friends about at Christmas.

Whether you want to catch your first wave, slow down and reconnect with nature, ride along the coastline, or simply build real English confidence in a relaxed setting, we’ve got a programme that will suit you  and we still have places open now, right through to October.

Here’s what we’re offering this season.

Adult English & Surf Immersion

This is the one I recommend if you want your classroom to open straight onto the beach. Mornings are spent building English through general and conversation classes; afternoons belong to the Atlantic. I’ve watched plenty of complete beginners stand up on a board for the first time here, it’s a great leveller, and a brilliant way to bond with classmates from other countries.

  • 15 hours of English per week
  • 4 surf lessons per week, with transfers included
  • Ocean safety & surf culture sessions
  • Evening social activities and excursions
  • Choice of residential, homestay or hotel accommodation
  • From €1,050 per week
  • Special weeks (19–26 July, 9–16 Aug) include full board and a day excursion for €1,445

 English & Nature Reset Experience

If you’re feeling a bit burnt out and just need to breathe for a week, this is the programme I’d point you towards. It’s slower and more restorative — yoga on the beach, forest bathing, hill walking, mindfulness and Tai Chi, all woven around real English practice. I always notice how much calmer this group looks by Wednesday.

  • 15 hours of English per week
  • 4 wellness activity sessions per week (yoga, Pilates, meditation, forest bathing, hill walking and more)
  • Full board accommodation
  • Evening activities and a day excursion
  • €1,445 all inclusive
  • Runs 19–26 July, 9–16 August and 4–11 October

Adult English & Horse Riding on the Atlantic

English classes in the morning, beach and sand dune rides in the afternoon — honestly one of my favourite sights of the summer is a line of riders cantering along the shoreline at sunset. It’s a great fit if you’re a confident rider (competent at canter) and want your course to feel like a genuine adventure, not just a class.

  • 15 hours of English per week
  • 3 horse riding sessions per week, with transfers included
  • Beach and sand dune trails
  • Irish culture evenings and social programme
  • Choice of accommodation
  • From €1,050 per week

English on the Wild Atlantic Way

Maybe you don’t want the activity commitment, and that’s completely fine — plenty of students just want to focus on their English, and this is where I’d send you. It’s our year-round general English option, set against the same stunning coastal backdrop, with the flexibility to add surfing, riding, hiking or excursions later if you change your mind once you see everything on offer.

  • 15 hours of English per week
  • Coastal excursions and Irish culture evenings
  • Welcome pack, social activity programme, and certificate of attendance
  • Optional surfing, riding and hiking add-ons
  • From €246 per week
  • Available all year round
