If you have never gone to Ireland it’s your moment to go. I know it’s a sentence that probably you have already listened to but I assure you it’s true. When I was in Milan and my teacher told me we would go to Ireland I was not excited. I wasn’t looking forward to going. Moreover I had low expectations and bad feelings.
However, everything changed when I arrived in Bundoran. I am a student from Milan, and living right next to the wild Atlantic Ocean was a whole new experience for me. Bundoran is a beautiful seaside town in County Donegal. Seeing the massive waves crash against the rocks and smelling the salty sea air every day completely changed my mood. The ocean views were absolutely breathtaking and gave me so much energy. The host family I lived with in Bundoran was so wonderful and welcoming. They made me feel like part of the family right away. The teachers were the same, and the work at the Donegal language school was unexpected in the best way. I lived for two weeks in paradise. Yes, the weather is not always good, but even the rain makes this coastal place look stunning and magical. Teachers, colleagues, and coordinators in the Donegal school were so good. They were warming, welcoming, and engaging. They made me feel at home from day one, and this is not a common thing when you are far away from your home.
Every day was a brand new adventure and a discovery. Living by the sea meant we could take beautiful, long walks along the seaside after our classes. We also took exciting group trips into the nearby cliffs of Slieve liag and visited other historic Irish cities. Back at the school, we played fun games and did activities together such as creating videos or presentations. It was the perfect occasion to improve my English speaking skills while creating good relationships with people. I also celebrated my birthday here, which I will never forget. We hiked up to the very top of Slieve liag. It was so incredibly windy up there! My friends and teachers gathered around and sang happy birthday to me. Since the strong wind would have blown out a real flame, I blew out a fake candle right there in the open air. It was a funny and special moment. Then, my host family prepared a delicious cake for me, and we celebrated together that evening. It truly was the best day of my life.
In conclusion, leaving Milan for Ireland was the best decision I ever made. This trip taught me to never let low expectations ruin an adventure before it even starts. Bundoran and its wonderful people will always hold a very special place in my heart. If you are sitting at home wondering if you should visit Ireland, stop doubting and just book your ticket!
