This month’s topic is possibly my favourite so far – we are studying the theme of ‘Nature’! Thankfully, summer is fast approaching so this means we have already had a couple of outdoor classes, exploring the local environment and meeting local people. We are ideally located in a rural area and many of the English language students who come from large cities feel that their time here is healing. There are many benefits to spending time in and close to nature, and it is all around us here at DELS.
We have some students taking the IELTS exam in May, and we are all very proud of the progress they’ve made in the past 6 months. IELTS is not only essential to fulfil the conditions of the work-study visa, but it is also a useful qualification to have for anyone intending to apply for universities or even entry to certain countries.
My recommendation this month is not a website – it is actually a book! It is ‘Atomic Habits’ by James Clear, and I find that it makes a lot of sense when applied to the language learning context. It focuses on the importance of building small habits into your daily routine that will eventually lead to visible results. It encourages learners to keep going on their learning journey, even when progress cannot be clearly seen. Check it out and let us know what you thought!
Wishing everyone a lovely month
