December! Whether or not you celebrate Christmas, the end of another calendar year encourages us to reflect on the past year and (hopefully) find the positives in it! For us here at DELS, we have been delighted to welcome new students again, and to return to face-to-face classes has been a breath of fresh air for everyone.

We’ve been getting in the festive spirit here – students helped to decorate the school, and we are going to have a Christmas pot luck (where everyone brings food from their country), a Christmas jumper competition, and a school play! I just know the next two weeks are going to fly!

Our topic this month has been ’Tourism’.  This is particularly relevant here in Bundoran, where tourism drives the local economy. Although many of our students become fairly permanent local residents, many of them work in local hotels and restaurants, and have a keen interest in travelling to the many local areas of natural beauty.

Some students are preparing to sit their IELTS exam in the next month and we wish them every success in the next step of their journey!  Exam preparation isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but personally I enjoy introducing students to the exam format and the techniques they can use to gain the highest score possible  🙂

Website recommendations this month? ELLLO this website has some fantastic listening practice activities, using a variety of different accents.  My top tip is to choose videos with the accent you find most difficult.  We all like a challenge, right?? 😀
