The Work Experience Programme offered by Donegal Language School helps students improve their English in both the classroom and work environment. The internships will help boost your business experience while giving you an opportunity to improve your language skills. Placements are arranged for 4 – 12 weeks. The placements are unpaid and can benefit you in the following ways:

Accommodation
We offer a range of accommodation choices to suit your needs including:
Residential Accommodation
The residential accommodation consists of a small complex of spacious 4 bedroom houses. The facilities of the house include 4 bedrooms, 3 to 4 bathrooms, a spacious kitchen, sitting
room and all mod cons. The houses are situated in a quiet cul de sac less than one minute’s walk from the Atlantic Ocean and 10 minutes walk from the town centre. Where possible our student coordinator ensures nationality mix in each house which aids English language learning and cultural awareness. The residential accommodation is based on 4 – 6 people per house. The houses are fully equipped to offer self catering services.
Host Family
We offer a select number of host families that offer a warm welcome and a home from home experience. Host families are within 5 – 15 minutes of the centre. A private room with half-board accommodation is offered (breakfast and an evening meal).
Apartment/House Share
For students staying longer than 4 weeks we help you find an apartment or house share locally
Terms and conditions
In order to be accepted on a Work Experience Placement with Donegal Language School you need to:
- Have at least an Intermediate (B1) level of English
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be a E.U citizen
- Take part in a 4 week study programme prior to your work placement
- Have some competence/experience in your chosen profession/discipline
- The student should stay for the time agreed and should give proper notice of cancellation to the school and employer
- The hours worked by the student will be at the discretion of their employer(maximum of 40 hours per week.
- An employer can only be changed in exceptional circumstances
- If a student is placed in childcare or other sensitive areas, a police check may be carried out
Additional Services included:
- CV Assitance – we will ensure that the English translation of your CV sounds professional and give you advice as to how best find a job given your background
- Accommodation finder service. We will help you find the right accommodation for your needs
- Job Finder Assistance – We often get approached by employers seeking candidates for work. Once a position becomes available we will bring them to the student’s attention and arrange an interview
- We can also help you open a bank account, obtain a PPS number and with any other tasks you require to help you when moving to Ireland.
- We also offer induction seminars which cover the essential interview skills for those students who are preparing for a job interview
Price
4 weeks of English classes (15 hours per week) + work experience placement € 1100
All course material and registration fee are included.
Not included is accommodation, airport transfers etc
Note
- EU students do not require a visa to work or study in Ireland.For students from other countries the situation varies – to find out more visit the Department of Justice Equality and Law Reform, Ireland website at www.justice.ie.
- Individual Work Placements can be arranged September- November. February – June
- Bus fares to/from work your work placement are not included
